Feminist Outrage Over Murder of Dentist in San Juan del Río

Authorities in Querétaro confirmed the identity of the young dentist who was murdered inside her office in the municipality of San Juan del Río. The victim was identified as Perla Citlali Martínez Zuñiga, 27 years old, originally from the community of San Miguel Galindo, who practiced her profession as a dentist at the place where she was found dead.

Perla Citlali was not only a committed professional in her work but also a talented huapango huasteco dancer, becoming the champion of the national huapango contest in San Joaquín in 2018. Unfortunately, the young woman was found dead on Tuesday, February 11, in her office, located on Calzada de Guadalupe, at the corner of Abedul Street, in the Quintas de Guadalupe neighborhood, in San Juan del Río.

Authorities have initiated investigations with a gender perspective to clarify whether it is a feminicide. The main suspect in the crime is Perla Citlali's ex-boyfriend, a doctor with a history of violence in previous relationships, from whom the young woman reportedly ended the relationship months earlier due to assaults. Reports indicate that the harassment by the accused persisted.

The State Attorney's Office is collecting statements and analyzing security camera footage to determine the motive for the crime and locate the alleged perpetrator, who is currently at large and wanted by the Crime Investigation Police (PID) of the Querétaro Attorney's Office. Authorities are calling on citizens to provide relevant information for the capture of the suspect, assuring the protection of the informants' identities.

The murder of Perla Citlali has shocked the community of San Juan del Río, generating outrage among her loved ones and the population in general. Friends, family, and feminist collectives in Querétaro have expressed their solidarity with the young dentist's loved ones, demanding that her case not go unpunished and calling for justice under the hashtag #JusticeForPerlaCitlali.
